Murray High-Mayfield Showdown Highlights Tonight's Cage Action
By Jerry Atkins, Sun-Democrat Sports Editor
Two of the hottest teams in the area square off in Murray tonight where Murray High’s top-ranked Tigers host third-rated Mayfield in a game that will bring an end to one very long victory string.
The Cardinals have rolled up 12 consecutive triumphs since a Jan. 4 setback to Louisville Valley while the Tigers have claimed wins in each of their last nine games. And, Murray’s last loss was a 64-54 setback to Mayfield.
Five of Mayfield’s wins during the streak have been against teams rated in this week’s top ten while Murray has defeated four top ten quints en route to its long winning string.
Eighth-rated Hickman County and ninth-ranked South Marshall tangle in Hardin tonight in the only other top ten match-up on the 21-game schedule. The Falcons have rolled up four wins in a row to up their record to 16-7. South Marshall, on the other hand, has lost six straight games to drop to 13-14.
In other action involving the First Region’s top ten teams, fifth-ranked Carlisle County plays host to Ballard Memorial, fourth-rated Calloway County visits Heath and No 7-ranked Lone Oak entertains Livingston Central.
